MEET SHERIFF EVERETT SESKER
Proven Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
Sheriff Everett Sesker is a proud son of Anne Arundel County. He was raised in Edgewater, surrounded by a large extended family who values community and making the world a better place. Like most kids growing up in south county, Everett spent his summers riding his bicycle from Edgewater to Mill Swamp and Sands Road to play basketball with friends and family. His Friday nights were always spent in Annapolis visiting his grandmother and longtime Annapolitan, Teresa Hicks on West Washington Street. A stand-out scholar- athlete and graduate of the South River High School Class of 1985, Everett was awarded a scholarship to Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he double majored in Communications and Political Science. As a first-generation college graduate, this was a defining moment in his life - one that laid the foundation for his 30 plus years of stellar leadership throughout the great state of Maryland.
In 1990, Everett joined the Prince George’s County Police Department and served for 22 years. As a decorated law enforcement officer, he has served in various leadership capacities, most notably as the Commander of the Training and Education Division, supervising the education and training of new officers. He also had the responsibility of ensuring both sworn, civilian and student officers adhered to all training requirements set forth by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC). Additionally, Everett served as Commander of the Narcotic Enforcement Division and Community Services Division.
Subsequent to serving the citizens of Prince George's County and retiring as a Major in 2012, Everett has been a trailblazer on issues that matter most to citizens: accountability and integrity in law enforcement. He was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan as the Executive Director of the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission in 2017. Everett then moved back home to Anne Arundel County, ready to make a difference in the community that has nurtured and protected him since 1967.
After giving a great deal of thought and consultation with friends and family Everett decided to run as a candidate for Sheriff of Anne Arundel County in the 2022 election. Everett didn't run just to run; he saw a need for a change in leadership at the Sheriff's Office for the benefit of our county and residents. As a result of hard work and a campaign based in facts and the issues that were of concern to the citizens, Everett Sesker became the 121st Sheriff for Anne Arundel County.
Sheriff Sesker believes that crime affects everyone and not just a few! He also believes that the Sheriff's Office needs to work with the other law enforcement agencies in the county and state to solve problems. During his term in office, he has worked diligently modernizing equipment, reorganizing bureaus to increase efficiency and effectiveness, and establishing pathways into the communities that Sheriff's Office serves. He also spearheaded the creation of the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Foundation. This stand-alone entity will serve to provide the Sheriff’s Office with much needed training and equipment. It will also provide opportunities to our young people in Anne Arundel County to ensure positive growth and develop their leadership skills.
Everett is the proud father of two beautiful daughters Tyler and Ryan. He resides in Tracys Landing with his wife Jessie, a retired law enforcement officer.
